An Interactive Demo captures a real product flow and turns it into a clickable walkthrough. By recording your entire screen instead of a browser tab, you can build that walkthrough from a desktop application such as Slack rather than a website.
Why use it
Plenty of the workflows worth demoing happen outside a browser. Recording the entire screen means desktop tools get the same treatment as web apps: the flow is captured once, then edited into a demo viewers can click through at their own pace.
How to record a desktop application demo
- Go to the Floik homepage and click Create new.
- Select Interactive Demo, then click Continue.
- When prompted to choose what to record, select Entire screen, choose the screen, then click Share.
- In the recording pop-up, click Start recording.
- Switch to the application you want to record and perform the actions you want to capture. Floik records the full flow.
- When you're done, return to the Floik tab.
- In the recording pop-up, click Finish and save recording.
Your recording is ready to edit within a few seconds. From there, add elements and interactions to build out the demo.
Best practices
- Walk through the flow once before you record, so the captured click path stays clean.
- Close notifications and unrelated windows first. Entire screen recording captures everything on the screen you select.
- Pause the recording if you need to set up the next part of the flow, instead of stopping and starting over.
- Keyboard entries aren't captured, so add any typed input manually while editing.
