How to add, delete, or reorder steps in a guide

A Step-by-Step Guide is built from the steps captured during your recording. From the Edit panel, you can add steps that weren't captured, delete steps you don't need, and reorder steps to change the sequence of the guide.

How to add a step

1. Open the step-by-step guide and go to the Edit panel.
2. Hover over an existing step. A plus icon appears above it.
3. Click the plus icon. A menu opens with two options — New step and New chapter.
4. Select New step. A new step is created before the step you hovered over.
5. Replace the default Title. New steps are created with the placeholder title "This is a sample title."
6. Add a Description. The description field has a rich-text toolbar for bold, italic, underline, lists, and links.
7. Click Add Image/Background to insert an image.

How to delete a step

1. Click the three-dot menu on the step you want to remove.
2. Select Delete.
3. Confirm your action in the pop-up.

How to delete multiple steps at once

1. Hover over a step number to reveal its checkbox.
2. Select the steps you want to remove. You can also choose one of the bulk selection options:
   • Selected steps only
   • Select all steps
   • Select all steps with images
   • Select all steps without images
3. Click Delete steps
4. Confirm your action in the pop-up.

How to reorder steps

1. Hover over the step navigator. A panel showing all the steps appears.
2. Drag and drop a step to reposition it.

Best practices

• New steps are added before the step whose plus icon you clicked, so hover over the step that should follow the one you're inserting.
• Replace the placeholder title on every step you add. Steps captured during recording get titles and descriptions generated for you, so a leftover "This is a sample title" stands out to readers.
• Reorder steps before adding narration or translations, so numbering and sequence stay consistent.
• Use Select all steps with images or Select all steps without images when clearing out a draft — it's faster than picking steps one at a time.
